Meet Deborah J Crozier

My journey began in survival.

After experiencing domestic violence that nearly cost me my life, I searched for understanding and healing. What I discovered was that trauma is not just an event of the past — it lives in the body, shaping how we think, feel, and relate.

Out of that search, I founded A Positive Start CIC, a community mental health service supporting those on low and no income. Over the years, my work has reached individuals and groups across communities, schools, and professional networks.

I bring a unique combination of:

Lived Experience – a deep understanding of trauma from the inside out.

Professional Expertise – Person-Centred Counsellor, Trauma-Informed Practitioner, and Chartered Fellow of the ACCPH.

 • Proven Impact – delivering therapy, training, and consultancy that transforms how people and organisations understand and respond to trauma.

My Philosophy

My philosophy is that healing begins with safety, compassion and connection. Trauma is a human response to overwhelming experiences, and with the right support, people can move from survival to growth. I believe in the power of TRUST - in ourselves, in safe relationships, and in the possiblity of change. My work combines lived and professional expertise to create spaces where people can heal, build resilience, and thrive.

I am a Chartered Fellow Member of the ACCPH (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists), which reflects both my professional experience and my commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ethical, trauma-informed practice. This recognition not only acknowledges my journey and expertise, but also assures clients that they are receiving support from a practitioner dedicated to ongoing learning, integrity, and compassionate care.
